About Us

Our History

Trinity Lutheran Church was founded on September 8, 1874, by David Fritz, Johann Fritz, August Fritz, William Schoen, Ernest Schoen, Ferdinand Malzahn, William Zemke,
Louis Krueger, and Gottlieb Krueger in Freistatt, Missouri. In 1927, the current brick school building was dedicated to the glory of God and it still stands as the foundation for the remainder of the school that has been added to over the years. On January 1, 1951, Trinity was included as one of Life Magazine’s "12 Great American Churches", after having been selected as such by The Christian Century Magazine. The current sanctuary (the third built) was dedicated on January 9, 1955, as part of the 100th anniversary of the congregation’s existence. In 2024, the congregation looks forward to the celebration of our 150th anniversary!

What We Believe

We believe in the Triune God, three persons and yet one God – Father, Son and Holy Spirit, who has loved you with a love that is incomparable.

In God the Father who made you and all that exists, who continues to provide our daily bread every day

That God made us in His image, yet we rebelled against Him when man fell into sin, thus destroying our relationship with God.

In Jesus Christ who is both true God and true man in one person, was born to be the world’s only Savior from sin, death and the power of the devil, and who died for the sins of the world on the cross and rose again so that believing in Him your sins are forgiven completely—because of this you have been reconciled to God.

In the Holy Spirit who is also true God, sent by the Father and the Son to bring us into a saving relationship with God through faith in Jesus Christ and who works in our lives through the means of grace – the Bible, Baptism and Holy Communion

That the Bible is God’s inspired and inerrant word, the only source for all we teach and believe about God.

That we are saved only by God’s grace in Jesus. His grace is His undeserved love for you. Because of His grace God gave His Son Jesus to be your Savior and forgives all your sins.

That Holy Baptism is entirely the work of God. That is saves (1 Peter 3:21). That it’s promise from God of being rescued from sin, Satan, and death, is for all ages (Acts 2:37-39).

That Holy Communion is the precious meal in which with bread and wine your Lord Jesus Christ invites people regularly to eat and drink His very body and blood, assuring all of the forgiveness of sin (Matthew 26:26-28).

That God has called us to a life of discipleship, following after Him, daily growing in our relationship with Him by the Holy Spirit, and sharing our faith with others who do not know Him.
